Eyes have an interesting way of adjusting to the darkness. Opening themselves up to it, they take on a half sense, a sense of supposition. As is so often the case, they materialize fiction. The eye then sees what the mind wants it to see.
Inside a cold cell devoid of light, two stories below the ground, a shivering woman awoke from an uneasy sleep. She focused on the chalky lines running up and down the wall in front of her. The white dust of the lines seemed to be the only discernible thing in the cell. While at first the stone floor helped ice her bruised body, now it only served to keep her from moving at all. The cold numbed her, broke her, and with every inhale she felt a thick presence of something not quite right ripple through her body.
“Wards,” she coughed through a hoarse throat. The enchantments designed to weaken her were worse than the rags soaked in poison bound around her wrists.
